My One Word 2022 and a Prayer

It’s a bit past time, but Happy New Year! (Does it seem like an old year already?)

I don’t think I shared my word for 2021.

It was “ready” . . . I didn’t really know what it meant until the close of the year. Though I knew God was telling me I was ready for what He planned for me, I thought my speaking ministry was going to increase. It turned out that every one of my events were more powerful than prior years, but the amount of events didn’t increase. I’m glad God is in control of that because with two moves and two new babies, more events would have been challenging.

What God showed me at the end of 2021 was I’d been prepared to go through the fire and to carry the firey torch of His truth wherever He sent me.

The word that came this year was not appealing. But, like prior years, it persisted. You know how it happens? It shows up everywhere when you’re not really looking. Though maybe you are . . .

The Word

The word first lighted on a page from my friend Jodie’s advent devotional: Deny.

While I’ve been praying for my practice of fasting to increase (I won’t lie, it’s been rough for me to deny myself of food for 24 hours!) I wasn’t sure a whole year of “deny” would be pleasant.

The first thing I did was look at the definition.

  • deny, disown, repudiate (I knew this meant myself, my will, any vices)
  • refuse to agree (not consent to) And God gave me ~ Hebrews 11:24
  • refuse to follow, someone as a leader ~ (this is a call to deny the world's idols and exclusively follow Christ)
  • be false to oneself, behave in a way that is untrue of self ~ (do the opposite in my case, be like my Father in Heaven) ~ 2 Timothy 2:13

After writing those things in my journal, I began to pray.

A Prayer

Father, I pray for much spiritual fruit in 2022. I pray I will stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured that I stand in You and so does my family. (Colossians 4:12). I pray you will break through the darkness which is blinding so many people to your glory and goodness. Take your people deeper so they can go higher with You, gaining Your vision.

Thank you that you train my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. That’s seriously what came to mind! (Psalm 18:34) I wanted to dig further, so I consulted the commentaries:

Matthew Henry writes of Psalm 18:32
“…they are gifts of God to the spiritual warrior, whereby he is prepared (ready!) for the contest, after the example of his victorious leader.” (Then came Psalm 144:1Psalm 16:7Job 20:24 )

Gill’s comentary said, “Satan’s strong bow is said to be broken by arms of faith, when his temptations, under the influence of divine grace, are repelled and rendered ineffectual; and especially his bow was broken by Christ not only in the wilderness when he was vanquished by him; but in the garden and on the cross. When Satan could find nothing on Him, and get no other advantage over him, but to bruise his heel; when he himself had his HEAD broke (lost authority) his works ruined and he himself destroyed.” ~Gill’s exposition of the Bible (emphasis and parenthesis, mine)

As I dug deeper that morning, I landed on Psalm 144 and wrote the entire 15 verses in my journal:

Psalm 144

Praise be to the Lord my Rock,      who trains my hands for war,      my fingers for battle.

He is my loving God and my fortress,      my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge,      who subdues peoples under me.

Lord , what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?
They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow.

Part your heavens, Lord , and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke.
Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy; shoot your arrows and rout them.
Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners
whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.

I will sing a new song to you, my God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you,
10  to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David.

From the deadly sword
11  deliver me; rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful.

Verses 12-15 revealed a promise to me:

12  Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
13  Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields;
14  our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets.
15  Blessed is the people of whom this is true; blessed is the people whose God is the Lord.

My Conversation With God

Oh wow, Lord! This is going to be a year of both warfare (Ephesians 6:17) and victory! Lies will be exposed; truth is going to win! You’re pouring out blessings on Your people! Consecrate Your people, Lord! I hear. I see what You are saying–and the battle belongs to You.

I do not have to defend myself . . . but I have to stand; I have to pray; I have to speak; I have to trust that You always lead us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spread the fragrance of Truth’s VICTORY.

Then I heard Him,

Kathy, take your position as Daughter. The devil has been disarmed, his authority crushed. Raise up your scepter, be clothed in holy array. Rule in the midst of your enemies! (This is from a verse I read in my message series: Trusting Jesus On The Journey: Psalm 110:2-3)

Prophetic Words

Several people have sent me videos with prophetic words for this year. When I listen, I do so with an ear for the Spirit, and then watch to see what He does. I noticed the recurring theme has been that lies will be exposed. I loved hearing that. Because the prayer I prayed most in 2021 was “Bring TRUTH to LIGHT.” Amen.

I’d love to hear what your word is this year and/or what you’ve been hearing God say lately. Drop a note in the comments!
