Reflections of the Past in the Present: Advent Hope

I love discovering the reflections of the Old Testament in the New Testament— parallels —like the tree reflecting in the pond.

I’ve been noticing so many as I read through the Bible this year. In the season of Advent, I see the way the church age is reflected ... 2000 years, waiting. Waiting for the virgin birth then, as we wait for the King to come again in all His glory & majesty.

We can be so encouraged as we see signs emerging, and with more clarity!

This is the first time there is an entire global contraction.

For mothers who've birthed babies, who've heard Jesus say it will be “like birth pains” (Matthew 24:8,) we recognize the “start of the end” when the intensity ramps up, the pain increases, the timing becomes more rapid. Jesus is coming!

HOPE!

“Look for His coming!”! “He’s coming in the clouds!”

As we see the Day approaching, we will need each other more. We will need to encourage ourselves in the Lord. We will need to have firm faith. And actually, these are the things we’ve been needing since our new birth! He has proven faithful. He will be Emmanuel to the end . . . which will be the New Beginning for us!

I love this paragraph from a YouVersion devo:

“To hope in God is to be patient with God. It is believing all the facts are not yet in. It is believing the story isn’t done being written. It is believing there is something still yet to be revealed or uncovered. It is believing that, despite the waiting, there will be a child born, who is “true God of true God, Light from Light eternal.””

His story isn’t done being written. Your story isn’t done being written! The beautiful thing about our journey with God is that we are promised it is going to be SO GOOD! (Romans 8:28) This promise alone serves us rich HOPE in whatever we are walking through here.

The Author is still holding the pen!

My prayer for us and our children and our grandchildren: That we’d have such a vision of Jesus and such a knowledge of His LOVE for us that we’d be FULL of faith and joy in Him.

Vision of Jesus; knowledge of His love, and faith in His promises . . . these are the things that lift us into the faith zone, enabling us to release our grip on our lives here.

May we be so expectant, so excited about our lives in Him eternally, that we hold loosely to temporal things. Living light here will embolden us, infusing courage and conviction into our souls, making us rock-solid like the great cloud of witnesses that have gone before us.

HOPE in the Lord and renew your strength. May we be ready and watching.

The King is Coming!
