Jesus Is Coming Soon

Can We Say That?

My tiny packed-to-the-max office is a former second bedroom in our home. for the past four years, looking for a certain book has been like looking for the one error on your document that spell check hasn't found.

I finally decided it would help me immensely (read: save my sanity) if I could find a shallow bookshelf for the small space available along one wall. My books are on shelves in the former clothing closet. Its shelves are deep, which makes using the space in front of the books . . . convenient.

After weeks of searching Marketplace, I found the perfect size for my space. Only ten inches deep and too wide for my Jeep.

After Dale returned from his mission trip to Mexico, I talked him into driving over an hour to purchase my saving grace. I'm exaggerating of course on the saving part, but it has been wildly helpful. And it looks pretty good too!

A Book Caught My Eye

It must be one I got at a thrift store or a library sale. I don't remember acquiring it. After I ripped apart my office and rearranged my books, I pulled The Merciful God of Prophecy by Tim LaHaye off the shelf. You might recognize the author as one of the authors of the Left Behind Series. I know, after being wildly popular for years, the series currently elicits eye-rolls by some more superiorly educated people of our day. Or more kindly stated, it's called into question and painted in a light similar to the low-budget Christian films that bring shame to the name.

Let's just say, I've heard people warn us that not everyone agrees with the theology of the books. Which isn't a bad warning, but it seems to come across sometimes as a warning that the views of the authors might be inferior to other views or even the inferior view. Which has, I admit, caused me to avoid the authors before the day I spied this book on my bookshelf. There are plenty of authors, right?

I've personally never read any of the Left Behind series, but when I looked up the author, this is what wikipedia said, "The books have been very popular, with total sales surpassing 65 million copies as of July 2016"

With that stated, seeing his name and the title of the book on my shelf made me curious. Who is the author and what does he believe about the pre-tribulaton rapture? Just a month or so ago, Lee Downy came to our church and gave a fiery message that called us into the deep. One of the things he stressed was our need to know prophecy.

So, curiosity and Lee's exhortation moved me to start reading. And it's a really GOOD read. A clarifying read. I'm only a little over midway through, but I told Dale that I think the negativity about Left Behind has closed some doors to insight that we really need in this hour of the global story.

The Church Needs This

Not only did the crown virus shake us from our slumber in discipleship and intimacy with the Lord and with each other, the need to know prophecy has emerged.

This one fact, alone, spoke volumes about the shroud I believe the enemy has imposed upon the church, unaware, between the dating of this book—2001 and 2020.

"the Bible devotes more space to the seven-year Tribulation than it does to any other historical period. Most of the Book of Revelation describes the Tribulation, and the Old Testament contains scores of references to it. The question is—why?"

~Tim LaHaye

This little epiphany was followed by a plethora of said prophecies about the return of Jesus!

Now, I know all Christians believe Jesus is returning. And most of us know that He said "No one knows the day or the hour, not even Jesus, but only the Father." But, He also said we would know the season by the signs. Like a storm forming on the horizon, or the signs of spring, we will know His return is on the horizon. (See: Matthew 24:6-13, 36-41)

If you have been reading here, you may remember my mention of Max Lucado's words I read at some time in 2020, "Earth is in her third trimester." Knowing Jesus describes the signs (wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, people hating one another, etc) as disruptions of peace, and 2020 with all it brought upon the earth, I have aptly named 2020 "The First Global Contraction" because it seemed earth's water broke and she is in labor.

I'm watching to see.

The things that have emerged in the last two years also seem to point to a pinnacle of ungodliness with transhumanism, and the potential of the AI apps to be used to advance dark agendas. I'm not saying AI can't be used for good, but like everything, have the potential for both. And the more advanced technology becomes as the world moves farther from God, the more potent evil will become. It doesn't take a prophet to see that if we are watching.

Even the M&M package touts *contains bioengineered food ingredients. Knowing this will help me cut calories on my long drives.

Jesus Is Coming Soon

How soon, we don't know. But, like Jennie Allen said at IF:Gathering, I want to be living like Jesus is coming back tomorrow every day! Part of doing so includes studying prophecy. One more quote from the book:

"Did you know the Bible contains almost three times as many promises of Jesus' second coming as of his first coming? Scripture boasts 129 prophecies regarding Jesus' first coming, but 329 predictions regarding his second coming. Since his first coming occurred just as prophesied, we can anticipate that the second coming is three times as certain as his first." ~Tim LaHaye
