What Does He Say With His Silence?

In the beginning . . . What is it about new beginnings? How is it that year after year, the wonder shows up? Do you know what I mean? A renewed sense of hope surfaces, and the will to clear away clutter . . . on the calendar, in the closet, in your heart . . . just kind of springs up. Again!

Like so many years before, on January first, I open my One Year Bible to Genesis 1, Psalm 1, Proverbs 1, and Matthew 1.

This year, I mark the word “good” with blue pencil as I read Genesis 1.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, the darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then He separated the light from the darkness. . . . Genesis 1:1-3

I continue highlighting it and anticipated one “good” for every day. Suddenly, for the first time, I see it!

Day two does not say "God saw that it was good."

Six times I mark “it was good” before the seventh time which is enhanced by “very” . . . When He created Adam, He looked over all He’d created and saw “it was very good.” — but, no “good” on day two, and two on day three, and two on day six.

So, I ask, “What happened on day two? Why didn’t He see “it was good?”

On day two, He created the sky.

Oh, the sky! I’d say that the sky is “very good!” How I love the sky! I’ve no doubt that He loves what He made too.

But . . . the sky was created to separate the earth from Heaven.

Suddenly, I understand. Because of what I know of my Heavenly Father and His tender heart — of God’s desire to be with us — the separation between earth and heaven — though beautiful, and undoubtedly good, I truly believe by His silence . . . by His omission of the word, good, is for the purpose of displaying His desire to “rend the veil” that separates us from Him.

Do you recall that when Jesus died, the temple curtain was torn in two from top to bottom? You can read about it in Matthew 27:51 — The curtain that separated men from God was torn from the top down.

My heart skips a beat at the thought of the magnitude of His love.

A tiny exclusion of a word, speaks to a simple granny sitting on her couch wielding her sky-colored pencil. “The Word . . . that speaks Light into existence, speaks of His love in His silence.”

Immanuel
Immanuel

I keep thinking of it.

Immanuel, the God who has always wanted to be with us . . .

Christmas is the crescendo . . . His love, born in a manger under a bright star . . . The greatest Gift — to all who receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God.

How His heart must have burst with joy when He ripped that curtain!

How my own feels like it could explode at the thought of His love . . . at the sound of His voice.

It’s hard to contain it, and hard to explain it.

Have you grasped the magnitude of His love for you? Maybe you needed this reminder. He has never seen the space between Him and you as anything other than something to conquer!

His creating . . . His coming . . . His conquest . . . Speaks mightily of one thing — He wants you! He loves you!

This is what He says in every word, and in the silence! You are mine, and I love you!
