When God Waves

It had been a seemingly long season of waiting and wondering if Dale and I had really landed in the church God wanted us serve with. Because, though I had knocked on the proverbial doors, I wasn’t finding my fit in the already-thriving Women’s ministry.

Up until this point, I’ve been more of a ground-breaker, but was willing to go wherever He sent me.

Then, about a month ago, I was invited to join the Women’s Ministry Team. There was a vacant position, they needed a Prayer Coordinator.

God had already been speaking to me about prayer, and then, after being asked, He confirmed it in several ways. So I happily said yes. I am honored to step into this precious place to serve Jesus and His mission.

A little over a week ago, we had our planning retreat for the upcoming year, where we review each ministry, give reports of God’s work, seek His will for the upcoming year, and do our own growth-assessment, setting new goals for the weeks and year ahead.

It was a wonderful, intense time. I enjoyed getting to know the team, all of whom are zealous for building the Kingdom and pleasing the King.

Jesus was with us, tangible in the midst of food, conversation, and loads of laughter.

And particularly visible the first night, as recoreded in my journal the following morning:

Last Night

I saw you paint the sky and then you pointed everyone to the sight.

As Lori spoke of her two teammates, we turned our heads toward their faces, and there You were, waving in the background. Outside the window, You’d brushed the canvas with hues of apple-reds and apricots.

“Look! God painted the sky for us!”

A Shift

There is always movement when You come near!

Diane got up from her chair and opened wide the blinds of the large window, so we all could see Your hand waving, together.

And soon, it was gone.

The sun set.

These windows of opportunity

to see You.

Often it seems we wait long for the Lord to bring the thing we are seeking: the answer, the opening, the breakthrough. And it’s in the waiting that we learn to cast our anxieties on Him, listen for His voice, and trust His promises.

So friend, what are you waiting for?

Keep your eyes open, your heart expectant, pray and declare His promises, and He will surely come one day, waving.

And your life will suddenly shift.

don't miss a thing
