When You're Being Bombarded By The Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda: How To Have "No Regrets"

I posted the blog on Sunday to encourage parents, and some time after hitting “Publish,” I thought there might be a reader who was “past parenting” and who hadn’t had the grace to sow gospel seeds into their children.

And now the time has passed, not to be regained. I know the sting of regret, and now it’s antidote.

I struggled DEEPLY with regret for several years. After those couple of years of “running in the desert,” seemingly unable to cope with everyday life; I regretted the time that I felt I’d lost with my children. Loss of living fully present with them, enjoying life.

I remember reading them a story at bedtime, and struggling with my concentration, always enduring a sense that I needed to “run.” It’s amazing how dark emotions fogged my present, and blocked enjoyment.

And in those places of pangs of regret, the Holy Spirit would whisper a word from scripture, such as: “He will restore what the locusts have eaten.”  Joel 2:25

And I would seek to settle in; I’d find rest in the whispered promise.

Or I would land on something while I was reading, like Matthew 20:12 ‘Those people worked only one hour, and yet you’ve paid them just as much as you paid us who worked all day in the scorching heat.’” The Parable of the Vineyard Workers has spoken to my heart on many occasions where the enemy is throwing accusations at me based on comparison or “being late” to understanding and implementing a grace.

He always gives us promises to rest on, no matter where we find ourselves, or at what hour, leg, or season of our journey. Wherever He finds us, He enables us to fulfill the plan He has for our lives and our families. He, the author and perfecter of our faith, has promised to work all things for good, be with us, grant us the desires of our heart when we trust in Him, and is faithful to complete the work He starts in each one of us.

So, be encouraged friend, if you struggle with regret for anything lost. Jesus, the resurrected King, the Lover of our Souls, He is mighty to save, deliver, transform, heal, and keep us and our hearts strong until the Day when He comes back for us!

Mind if I pray for you?
Dear Heavenly Father, Your word says that all of our days are ordained before one of them comes to be. And you have good plans for us, to prosper us and not to harm us, to give us a hope and a future. You DO restore what the locust have eaten and are Mighty to TURN THINGS AROUND just as you did for Mordecai and Esther and Your people. You turn the enemy on his head! You’ve crushed His head, and promise to lead us in victory! You also promise that our spouse and children are sanctified, set apart for you through our faith. [
1 Corinthians 7:14We STAND on your promises. You are faithful to Your promises, You are loving toward all You have made, and especially to Your Children. Help us to praise You and thank you before we see the manifestation of the promise. Help us to encourage our hearts in You by reminding ourselves of the truth and declaring it over our lives and our loved ones. Through You we will do valiantly, it is YOU who tread down our enemies! Thank you, and Amen!
